Discord Server Rules

I want the ESMO Discord to stay welcoming, useful, and fun for every manager. Friendly banter and honest criticism are welcome. Personal hostility is not.

These rules apply to text channels, voice channels, display names, profiles used in the server, and direct messages that arise from the ESMO community. They supplement Discord’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, which always apply.

The examples below clarify the rules but are not exhaustive. Moderators may act on behavior that clearly breaks the purpose of a rule even when the exact behavior is not listed.

1. Treat other managers with respect

Personal attacks, harassment, discrimination, slurs, threats, sexual harassment, humiliation, and dogpiling are not allowed.

Friendly banter is welcome while everyone involved is comfortable. Keep it light, stop when someone asks, and do not turn a disagreement into a heated argument.

2. Criticize constructively

You may criticize ESMO, its updates, balance, moderation, or any decision I make. Simply disliking something does not break the rules.

Constructive feedback explains the problem, adds useful context, or suggests an improvement. Repeating the same complaint without adding anything, rage-baiting, making hostile demands, or attacking people instead of the issue is not constructive feedback.

3. Keep content safe for the whole community

Do not post sexual or NSFW material, graphic violence, shock content, extremist material, or content that promotes self-harm or illegal activity. This applies to text, images, links, audio, video, emoji, stickers, profiles, and streams shared in the server.

4. Respect privacy and identity

Do not reveal or threaten to reveal someone else’s personal information. Do not dox, impersonate, or expose private conversations to shame or target someone. Send relevant evidence privately to a moderator when reporting a violation.

5. Do not spam or disrupt the server

Do not flood channels, abuse mentions, troll, raid, deliberately derail conversations, evade a ban, or organize a public campaign against another member. Give other managers room to participate without having to fight through noise or provocation.

6. No scams or malicious content

Do not post phishing attempts, deceptive links, malware, fraudulent giveaways, or anything intended to steal an account, money, or personal information. If an offer looks suspicious, report it privately instead of spreading it.

7. Promote responsibly

ESMO clubs, streams, tournaments, and community projects may be promoted in channels that allow them. Unrelated advertising, repeated promotion, referral spam, and unsolicited promotional direct messages are not allowed.

8. Protect competitive integrity

Do not use the server to distribute cheats, coordinate exploits, fix matches or auctions, trade accounts, or organize other unfair play. Responsible bug reports are welcome. Share sensitive exploit details privately with a moderator rather than posting instructions publicly.

9. Use channels properly and follow moderator instructions

Keep posts in the appropriate channels and follow reasonable instructions from the moderation team. Do not impersonate staff, publicly litigate moderation cases, or evade timeouts, restrictions, removals, or bans.

Enforcement

Moderation normally progresses according to the severity and history of the behavior:

  1. Content removal or an informal reminder.
  2. Formal warning.
  3. Temporary timeout or channel restriction.
  4. Removal from the server or temporary ban.
  5. Permanent ban.

Moderators may skip steps when a violation is severe, repeated, or creates an immediate safety risk. Threats, doxxing, hateful conduct, scams, raids, and ban evasion may result in an immediate ban. These examples are not exhaustive.

Actions under this policy affect Discord access only. They do not affect your ESMO account.

Report a violation

Send a private message to a moderator with the relevant message link and enough context to understand what happened. Do not start a public callout, retaliate, or ask other managers to pressure the moderation team.

Appeal a moderation action

Email support@esmo.gg with your Discord username, the approximate date, the action you are appealing, and why you believe it should be reconsidered.

Appeals stay private. An appeal may result in the action being upheld, reduced, or reversed. Evading the action while the appeal is pending is a separate violation.
