Moving to a new phone: keeping your club when you switch devices
How to carry your club to a new phone, and how to bridge accounts when switching between Android and iPhone.
Your club follows your sign-in, not your phone
Your club is tied to how you sign in (Apple or Google), not to a specific phone. Sign in on the new phone with the same account and your club comes with it, full history intact.
There is no guest mode: a club can only be reached through the Apple or Google account it’s signed in with, so the account is the thing you move.
The one thing to know before switching between Android and iPhone
- iPhone, iPad, and Mac only give you a “Continue with Apple” button to sign in.
- Android only gives you a “Continue with Google” button to sign in.
Neither button shows up on the other platform, so you can’t just tap “Continue with Google” on an iPhone or “Continue with Apple” on Android. To bridge the two, add the connection you’ll need on your old phone, before you switch, then use it to sign in on the new one.
Before you switch (do this on your old phone)
- Switching from iPhone to Android? If your iPhone already has a Google connection, skip to the next section. Otherwise, on your iPhone go to Settings → Connections → Add Connection → Continue with Google. Pick a Google account you don’t already use for another ESMO club.
- Switching from Android to iPhone? If your Android phone already has an Apple connection, skip to the next section. Otherwise, on your Android phone go to Settings → Connections → Add Connection → Continue with Apple. Same rule: pick an Apple ID you don’t already use for another ESMO club.
On your new phone
- Install ESMO from the store (Play Store on Android, App Store on iPhone).
- On iPhone, tap Continue with Apple and use the Apple ID you just connected (or already had). On Android, tap Continue with Google and use the Google account you just connected (or already had).
- Your club loads with everything as you left it.
Moving between two phones of the same kind
Android to Android, or iPhone to iPhone: nothing special. Just sign in on the new phone with the same account you already use.
Important
- Add the connection before you lose access to the old phone. If you can still sign into the old device (or any device that supports the account type you need), you can always add it later, but it’s easiest to do it before you switch.
- One account, one club. Don’t connect an Apple ID or Google account that already has its own ESMO club, or you’ll be switching to that club, not moving yours. See the Single account policy.
FAQ
I switched from iPhone to Android and I see a brand new club.
On Android, Apple sign-in isn’t available, so signing in started a fresh Google club. Sign out, then sign back in with the Google account that’s connected to your original club. If you never added a Google connection on the iPhone, sign back into your iPhone (or any Apple device), add Google under Settings → Connections, then use that Google account on Android. Still stuck? I switched from Android to iPhone and I see a brand new club.
On iPhone, Google sign-in isn’t offered as a login button, so signing in with Apple started a fresh club. Sign out, then sign back in with the Apple ID that’s connected to your original club. If you never added an Apple connection on Android, sign back into your Android phone, add Apple under Settings → Connections, then use that Apple ID on iPhone. Still stuck? Email support@esmo.gg.
Does adding a connection change anything about my club?
No. It just adds another way to sign into the same club.
I have an iPad and an Android phone.
Same rule as above: add the connection for whichever platform you don’t natively sign in on. Since Apple sign-in isn’t available on Android, add a Google connection on the iPad, then sign in with it on both.
